The Isle of Man is a British Crown dependency, centrally situated in the Irish Sea. Owing allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II as Sovereign Lord of Mann, it has its own Parliament, its own legal system, and since 1973 its own independent Post Office administration.
The word "Manx" is used because it refers to, or relates to, a characteristic, inhabitant, our language or dialect, like someone born in Ireland is called "Irish" or Scotland is called "Scottish". As our stamps are all linked to the Isle of Man we call our stamps "Manx" as they are born in the Isle of Man.
