![]() Village pubs are rarely found in more idyllic settings than the Shore Hotel. In the historic east coast village of Laxey, just before the lush slopes of the valley give way to dramatic headland, the Shore Hotel nestles on the banks of the Laxey River. The name Laxey is derived from the Norse 'laksaa', or 'salmon river', as the fish were once abundant in these waters. |
It is hard to believe that one of the foremost mining industries in Victorian Britain once thrived in this tranquil village but the world famous Laxey Wheel (or 'Lady Isabella'), which was built to pump water from the mines, still dominates the valley. There is a real sense of tradition and community spirit in Laxey, and this is nowhere stronger than at the Shore Hotel. Family run and supplied by our own unique micro-brewery, we pride ourselves on being a genuine community pub where everyone can meet to eat, drink and while away the time, whether on warm summer days or winter nights.
