Peel Castle - The Bowling Green

This levelled area of grass is now a favourite location for concerts during the summer months and it's been used for leisure activities for many hundreds of years. In the 16th and 17th centuries it was used as a bowling green, but before that, with its earthen banks on three sides to absorb stray shots, it was an ideal place for target practice for musketeers, and even earlier than that, for bowmen.
