Financial Crime Unit Introduction

Protecting the Island's Financial Reputation and Guarding its Financial Community

There is an inextricable link between the quality of life in the Isle of Man and the future development of the financial services industry.  As a high profile offshore financial centre, our reputation as being a well regulated and safe place to do business remains vital to the continued prosperity of the Island.

The Financial Crime Unit is a specialist department of the Isle of Man Constabulary and comprised of highly trained Police and Customs officers together with an analyst, accountant and support staff.  Legal advice is provided by the Attorney General's office.

Although the Isle of Man is a low crime area, the Police Service recognises that it can no longer simply police its own jurisdiction in isolation and that a coordinated approach is required to tackle international and organised crime effectively.  The Unit therefore works closely with local regulators and international law enforcement agencies in the fight against serious and organised crime by preventing and detecting serious fraud, drug trafficking, money laundering and the financing of terrorism.  The Constabulary places great importance in this area and Financial Crime is a Key Service Area in the Constabulary's policing plan.  The FCU has a separate budget that is effectively ring fenced to enable resources to be concentrated on the primary aims of the Unit.

Our Vision: 'To make our community safe by offering a world class policing service'.

Our Mission: 'Community safety is our primary goal.'
