The organisers of the 2010 Big Wheel Blues Festival have unveiled the act for their festival launch gig at Peel's Centenary Centre.

The Boyd Small Band will fly over from Holland for the launch, which takes place on Saturday March 13th, 2010, at 8pm (doors open 7.30pm).

The support act will be local bluesmakers, The Big Wheel Blues Band.

Hailing from Portland, Oregon, Boyd Small was singer and drummer for The Terraplanes for 11 years.

His international performance credits include tours with Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Jimmy Rogers, Hubert Sumlin, Guitar Shorty and Pinetop Perkins.

Since relocating to Europe, Boyd has become a distinguished member of the roots music scene and co-founded the Amsterdam-based alternative roots and modern blues label 'Cool Buzz'.

Boyd Small will be joined onstage by Band members Roelof Meijeringh and Ronald de Jong.

Tickets for the launch gig will go on sale from the Centenary Centre website on Friday January 22nd at £10.00 each, and will also be available from the usual outlets.

New Festival Sponsors

In further news, the Big Wheel Blues Festival is delighted to welcome on board new sponsors Peter Norris Music.  The sponsorship cements the long-standing relationship between the festival and the music shop (on Finch Road, Douglas), which has supported the event for many years by helping to promote it and loaning key equipment.

Joining Cains as the main sponsors, Peter Norris Music is proud to be associated with the festival and looking forward to developing their new musical partnership.

Great to hear news of Boyd and the band. Miss hearing/seeing them back here, but happy to know they're keeping other blues lovers happy. Travel well...
