The Milntown Model Boat Pageant, Milntown Lake, Jubilee Day July 6th

On the Queen's Isle of Man Diamond Jubilee Day, Friday 6th July 2012, Milntown will be hosting a Model Boat Pageant arranged by the Manx Model Boat Club. The pageant hopes to include as many as 60 boats, one for each year of her reign, including a "Viking longboat." This will be a unique Island event, and may be, a unique model boating event through the British Isles.

Boats will be congregating on the water from 1.30pm with the grand pageant sailing to orders by 3.00pm. Lets hope ours is in the dry!

Model Boat Club members will be bringing all their stock, new and old, in this display of boats, and possibly set at least an Isle of Man record, if not a British Isles record for the number of boats afloat on the lake at the same time.

To enable this, several raft convoys will be made so that old boats with no radio gear can be towed about in the pageant. No attempt will be made to formalise the procession, boats will congregate as they float around.

The Club ask that you not bring your own boats without prior consent from the organisers, as frequency clashes can occur, especially with cheaper electrical goods, causing much damage. Please contact the OOD listed below for more information. It may be possible to accommodate you into a “convoy”. All boaters are required to have insurance cover, as a Club member, this is granted with membership.

The event will take place on the Milntown lake, and normal garden admission fees will apply, so make a day and look around the gardens as well. For “sat nav” users and visitors the post code for Milntown is IM7 2AB.

Many thanks to all our followers at previous events, especially the last one at Silverdale on the 24th June, when we had at least two hundred people over the competition period. We hope to see you here at Milntown at this unique “one off”. OOD (officer of the day) and “Pageant Master” is Kim Holland and can be contacted at or via the email link on the Boat Club website to the webmaster.

Please contact the OOD if you wish to participate.
