Manx Heather

by Manx Radio

A Manx plant has been recognised as having international importance for wildlife conservation.

The information comes from the European Community Habitats Directive, which lists important habitats including European dry heath, which is the category most of the Island’s moorland falls into.

Manx Heather Moor covers eleven per cent of the Isle of Man, and 71% of that is in public ownership, via DAFF.

North Douglas MHK Bill Henderson brought up the issue in the House of Keys this week.
