IOM Sport Aid Scholarships for 2013-14 announced

by MT

Isle of Man Sport Aid has announced the recipients of its scholarship programme for 2014-15. In all, a record 60 individuals, as well as Isle of Man Cycling’s Regional School of Racing, will be receiving support during the year.

A scholarship typically provides a combination of financial support towards travel and equipment costs plus access to support services at the Isle of Man Sport Institute.

Isle of Man Sport Aid has played a vital role in the development of most of the Island’s sports stars in the past 15-20 years. A number of Sport Aid recipients have gone on to great things in their sporting career including winning gold medals at World Championships and Olympic Games.

Sarah Corlett, Chairman of Isle of Man Sport Aid commented:

“All athletes are nominated by their Governing Body and there is then a rigorous selection process by the independent Isle of Man Sport Aid Committee members to whom I am very grateful for giving up their time and energy in what can be a time consuming process with very many factors to take into account. We are looking at those with the attributes to succeed in the long-term and keep the Isle of Man on the sporting map and as usual, we have a remarkable number of athletes in an ever-increasing range of sports achieving outstandingly high levels of accomplishment. We are very grateful to all our sponsors, most of whom have been with us for many years, for their help. In particularly, we are particularly delighted that Mark Cavendish, who was supported by Sport Aid from 2000 to 2005, is now one of principal sponsors. We will always encourage those who wish to help us in our investment in Manx sport in any way, to get in touch and join our team of sponsors.”

Isle of Man Sport Aid is a registered charity and partners include a number of local businesses and individuals as well as the Isle of Man Government.

Scholarships will be presented at the Isle of Man Bank Sports Awards which take place on Thursday 10th April at the Villa Marina. Tickets are still available from the Villa Box Office.
