Isle of Man based Comis Holdings has confirmed plans to deliver a landmark hotel and leisure development now that a deal to purchase the former Mount Murray Hotel and Country Club has been finalised.
The purchase was completed late on Thursday afternoon following the licencing court decision to grant the appropriate licence.
The development will be known as “COMIS at Mount Murray”.
The first phases of work to refurbish the hotel, which closed following a fire in 2013, should begin within weeks.
A Comis Holdings director said: ‘The Isle of Man needs more high quality hotel accommodation, both to grow the visitor economy and provide businesses with a venue where they can be proud to host guests. There is also a demand among Island residents for the amenities of a world-class development that ‘COMIS at Mount Murray’ intend to provide.
‘Our vision is to provide superior hotel accommodation and facilities in a picturesque setting which can be enjoyed by visitors and locals, as well as a “destination” venue for occasions ranging from business conferences to large-scale tourism events. There is huge potential.’
The golf club itself remains open and Comis Holdings plan to re-open the restaurant in the coming weeks – a further announcement will be made in due course.
