Beware of 'fake' text messages say police

Police are warning people to be aware of scam text messages which are being sent to Island residents.

They say 'fake' messages which claim to be from BT are being delivered to Manx Telecom mobile users.

BT has verified that the texts do not originte from themselves.

Anyone who recieves a messsage is asked to delete it.

In a post on Facebook officers say: "Don't become a victim of a scam - if you are ever unsure about a text received claiming to be from a reputable business; Don't click on any links within the text; Don't call the number the text came from and Don't provide any personal details. Either delete the text or call that business on their recognised number and question the validity of the text."
