St Paul's Church

by Valerie Caine 25th February 2017

With attempts to secure the future of St Paul's Church in Foxdale well under way, the final session in a series of Community Days will take place this Friday, 15 April.

This was prompted by a series of meetings held around the village about twelve months ago, when supporters gave their backing to the idea of using the church as a focal point for community activities as well as a place of worship.

Since then a number of pews have been removed from the rear of the church with a view to opening up the area for additional events, which have been successful with both members of the church and non-goers alike. But a more pro-active approach resulted in the establishment of a series of Community Days, in an attempt to encourage people of the area to step inside the building for a variety of events.

The following events have been planned for this Friday:

9.30am - 11.30am Working Party/Coffee Stop (you're chance to help with simple maintenance)

Noon - 2.30pm Lunch (including soup, roll, cake, tea and coffee)

3.30pm - 5.00pm Children's Craft Club

7.00pm - 9.00pm Film Evening/Talk

(No charge - donations welcome)

But there's also going to be a Spring Fayre and Coffee Morning held at St Paul's Church on Saturday 16 April, starting at 10.00am if you feel like popping out for a stroll, or meeting up with friends for a morning cuppa.

There are some exciting ideas in the offing about future activities which organisers hope to announce at the Spring Fayre.

Plans are currently being drawn up with a view to providing disabled access, an indoor toilet and an upgraded kitchen, and if positive feedback from the surrounding community continues, then organisers will look towards attracting funding for potential development.

This is a crucial turning point for the future of St Paul's Church, but without your efforts to support the venue as a community based enterprise this could result in the closure of an historically important building in the village.
