Barclays Wealth Isle of Man Treasury team, compromising of 17 people headed up by Peter Sutton. Within the team there are a number of key specialists with significant expertise who work closely with their clients; Chris Buxton, Les Williamson and Sara Kniveton are three of those specialists that have the task of anticipating, managing and delivering the Treasury related needs of this client base.  Generally this involves foreign exchange and cash management business, but they also provide risk management solutions to mitigate client exposures in a number of areas such as FX, interest rate, commodity and equity as well as creating structured investment solutions.

With the turmoil of financial markets and the uncertainty surrounding the banking sector’s health, it has proved valuable to be part of Barclays Plc, as the bank has remained independent, strong and profitable throughout the crisis.  In addition, the speed at which we reacted to our clients’ needs has allowed us to forge stronger relationship with our  clients in relation to their Treasury needs. Such immediate actions over the last 12 months have helped to maintain the profile of the Isle of Man as a jurisdiction that is open for business.

The rollercoaster of the last 12 months saw a great deal of benefit, particularly during October and November last year when the American investment bank model was under severe stress, to the point of collapse.  Barclays Isle of Man benefitted when numerous fund clients exited their Prime Broker relationships, initially in exchange for a very safe pair of hands.  A number of relationships were enhanced by the speed at which Barclays reacted to our clients’ changing needs at the height of the turmoil.

At Barclays Wealth, we’ve continued to hire expertise and develop our Treasury product offering so that we are able to support all of our clients’ objectives.  Our aim is to further strengthen our relationship with our clients', whether that is providing day to day services such as FX and Money Market, longer term hedging, risk-management or by introducing our clients to the wide array of our Group capabilities.
