Isle of Man Film Introduction

In 1995, Isle of Man Film (formerly the Isle of Man Film Commission) was established with the aim of encouraging investment from filmmakers. The Isle of Man has subsequently built up a reputation worldwide as a key player in the industry, having enabled well over 80 film and TV productions.

The first high-profile success to originate from the Island was 1997’s box office smash Waking Ned. Notable productions since then have included Stormbreaker, Miss Potter, On a Clear Day, The Libertine and Me and Orson Welles.

As well as playing an integral role in co-producing and co-financing, the Island has also provided locations for a wide variety of projects. The beauty and diversity of its natural scenery, and the blend of traditional and modern character to be found in the towns and villages, make the Isle of Man a highly versatile location.

Isle of Man Film have always been proactive in promoting the Island overseas and provide a central point of contact for filming teams visiting the Island, offering invaluable assistance in production planning.

The success of Isle of Man Film was consolidated by the establishment of the Media Development Fund. The ‘MDF’, run by CinemaNX Ltd (‘NX’), facilitates film and television productions by offering a broad range of equity investment solutions.

Combine the benefits of attractive investment opportunities, a highly developed infrastructure, enviable locations and a broad base of local human resources, and it’s not hard to see why the Island has become the choice of many high calibre film companies.
