Telecommunications
The Island’s fixed and mobile networks are provided by Manx Telecom (a subsidiary of 02plc/ Telefonica Group) and Cable & Wireless, who operate under licences issued by the Isle of Man Communications Commission. Manx Telecom was one of the first operators in the world to offer ADSL broadband to their customers, and the first in Europe to launch its 3G network. Cable & Wireless, a leading telecoms operator in 34 countries, has invested heavily in the Isle of Man, stimulating choice and innovation.
Connectivity is provided by highly resilient fibre optic cables (owned by the Manx Electricity Authority/ Isle of Man Government) linking to the UK and Northern Ireland.
