In the Isle of Man legal practitioners need to qualify as a Manx Advocate to appear in the Manx Courts. The Manx legal system and the Manx jurisdiction being quite different to that of England, Scotland, Wales or the Channel Islands. General legal practitioners are known locally as Advocates and are governed by the Isle of Man Law Society. A solicitor would usually be qualified from the British legal system.
