Youngest team member smashes Island record

The future of Isle of Man swimming is extremely positive. So says one of the Island’s team managers at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Tonight (Monday), 14 year-old Niamh Robinson - the youngest member of the Manx team – competes in the semi-finals of the 50 metres backstroke after setting new junior and senior Island records en route. Coach Leonie Cooil says there have been some genuinely impressive performances all week.Clip 1

It was almost another great day for Team Isle of Man yesterday with Mark Christian in the fight for the medals in the Scratch Race in the Velodrome but just missed out by a whisker finishing fourth. Joe Kelly also performing fantastically well finishing fifth. There were some more fantastic performances in the Swimming with National records and Personal Bests set again in the pool with Grant Halsall and Laura Kinley making the semi-finals. Grant Halsall set a new national record in the 100m butterfly and then swam very close to that time in the semi final finishing 7th and 13th overall.
