'Robber baron state' accusation from MHK

A member of the House of Keys has described the United Kingdom's decision to slash the Isle of Man's revenue from VAT as 'the actions of a robber baron state'.

North Douglas MHK Bill Henderson said it was 'unprecedented' for one nation to reduce another's income by a fifth, and questioned the human rights implications of the move.

Mr Henderson said the Isle of Man was 'totally loyal' to the UK, and had young men and women fighting for its near neighbour in Afghanistan and Iraq.

On Mandate at One, he said he was shocked by the scale of the Island's loss (play audio file):

Mr Henderson went on to say the Isle of Man was facing some critical times, and money would be extremely tight.

He urged everybody to work together to get through the inevitable difficulties ahead.

I seriosuly coudldn't consider what was claimed to have been said by Billy Hendersen ('unprecedented' for one nation to reduce another's income by a fifth, and questioned the human rights implications of the move) as being anything close to reality. What the hell have the muddy little boltholes been doing for the decades? By all accounts more than ZAR60 billion has been disinvested in secrecy jurisdictions per annum - leving our country to deal with 40% of the population having to go to bed at night without a decent meal. How's that for self-serving, moypic human rights implications? You reap wha you sow...in abundance too!
