e-Gaming
The Isle of Man is one of the foremost jurisdictions in the
world to support a flourishing e-gaming industry.
This has come as a direct result of legislation passed to
facilitate the growth of the industry, while simultaneously
protecting consumers.
Licensing and regulatory legislation continues to address changes
and developments in the industry, while a whole range of
advantageous factors have consolidated the Island's reputation as a
stable and dynamic base for online gaming business.
Benefits of Relocating to the Island
The Island is a 'Tier 1' jurisdiction with a coveted place
on the UK Government's e-gaming 'White List.'
Furthermore, it offers a number of economic benefits, from a
favourable tax regime to structured financial assistance for
relocating businesses.
World-class telecommunications, a highly-developed infrastructure
and excellent support services make the Island a serious
international competitor, as a growing number of thriving e-gaming
businesses have discovered.
Co-operation between the Isle of Man Government and the private
sector is an additional factor which strengthens the growth of
e-gaming, and both are equally committed to its ongoing
development.
The Home of PokerStars
In October 2013 the Isle of Man was a location in the
UK & Ireland Poker Tour. The 4-day event was hosted by PokerStars,
whose head office is located on the Island. Over 500 poker
players were attracted by the promise of prize money totalling
half a million pounds.
PokerNews.com toured a local Datacentre, during
the tournament, to see what goes on behind the
scenes of hosting an online poker site.
e-Business
With a first-class telecommunications structure and a low-tax
environment, the Island is able to attract e-businesses from
around the globe - accounting for around 12% of the local
economy.
It is a key location for high-tech financial services, and
continues to develop its legal and technological structure to cope
with growing business demand.
Comprehensive support services are offered - such as website
design, software and hardware suppliers and internet payment
gateway facilities.
The Isle of Man has also been used in recent years as a test-bed
for new technologies and is at the forefront of the launch of
4G services.
Prior to this, Manx Telecom was the first European operator to
launch a 3G mobile service and the first in the world to launch a
3.5G mobile service.
