The Isle of Man has quickly become recognised as an
ideal location for space-related industries, and four out of
the ten top satellite companies in the world now have a presence
here.
The Island is also host to the International Institute of Space Commerce
(IISC) - the result of a partnership between
the International Space
University (ISU) and the Manx
Government. It aims to become a leading think-tank in
the study of space economics, and is based in the International
Business School.
Manx satellite operators themselves have formed the Space Data
Association (SDA), which has had a great impact on the industry
since 2009. It seeks to improve the safety and integrity of
satellite operations, and to improve management of the shared
resources of the space environment and the RF spectrum.
