Royal London 360 Youth Cycling League - Round 6

by isleofman.com 20th May 2011
Despite the occasional spot of rain, conditions remained dry for the 310 competitors who turned out at the National Sports Centre last Tuesday night for round six of Team Royal London 360 Isle of Man's youth league. Top girl and regular top three finisher Jemma Quayle got the evening off to a flying start, leading home Chester Bell, Peter Lloyd, Matthew Gledhill and Lisa Martin for an impressive maiden victory in the novices class. Rebecca Walmsley outsprinted Euan Maher for sixth place and Rebecca Cooil stayed ahead of the chasing pack to claim eighth. Shannon Moore and Rubi Skillen completed the top ten leader board. In the born 2006 & later event Zachary Dowson edged out Jack Keenan to claim his fourth win of the series. Ivan Sorby pipped Drystan Sewell and Corey Peters for third, with Cian Jackson a safe sixth ahead of David Sargent, who outgunned Alfie Swales for seventh place. Harry Fox took the bunch sprint for ninth and Hollie Palmer claimed the girls' prize in 17th spot. Harry Kneen was too strong for fellow frontrunner Niall Colquitt in the sprint at the end of the born 2005 race. Mairi Harrison was a good third and Nathan Cannell got away from travelling companions Bradley Kneen and Harvey Coole to grab fourth. Chloe Comaish made up ten places on the final lap to snatch seventh from Oliver Tobin, Jacob O'Boyle, Aaron Christian and second girl Chloe Dillon. Attacking from the gun, Zac Walker was never headed in the born 2004 category. Ralf Holden held off Joshua Dudley in the dash for second and Cameron Dudley beat Oliver Harrison to the line for fourth. James Devereau came from behind to take sixth ahead of Ross Quayle and Joshua Kelly, with Nathan Slack, Billy Kennedy, Dillon Dowson and best girl Mia Worthington rounding off the top twelve. Percy Hampton surged ahead of breakaway partner Jake Wilson on the finishing straight to take the chequered flag in the born 2003 class, increasing his tally of wins to four. Thomas Skillicorn, Jack Christian, Jonty Bregazzi and Matthew Black, who had all been in the initial break with the leading duo, filled the next four places ahead of Jamie Gelling, who headed Tyler Hannay, Darcy Cain and Jack Collister across the line for seventh. Aaron Lund held off a strong challenge from Will Corkill to notch up his fifth success in the born 2002 three lapper. James Harrison eventually got the better of Blae Cain for third and Corrin Leeming just managed to keep an eight strong chasing group at bay for fifth. A leading group of seven riders formed at the head of the born 2001 age group. Tosh Teare lifted the pace on the final lap and rode clear to take a comfortable victory from chasers Max Walker, Juan Kneen, Adam Scarffe and Emma Draper. An aggressive Matthew Draper won the following born 2000 & earlier event in similar fashion, taking the chequered flag well clear of runner-up Ben Christian. Third place went to Sam Batey and Kaitlin Slack picked up the girls' honours in sixth position. Charlie Gibson came out on top in the bunch sprint that decided the outcome of the under 10 racing bikes. Max Walker was second closely followed by Tosh Teare, Conor Gelling, Aaron Lund and Will Corkill, who completed the top six. Chloe Crellin, Emma Draper and Charlie Moss were the top three girls in 12th, 13th and 15th places respectively. In the under 12 racing bikes Conor Davies got the verdict by a short wheel from Thomas Bostock and Sam Batey, with Callum Clague edging out Eleanor Davies for fourth. In the under 16's race Jake Kelly scored another impressive solo victory ahead of Jamie Dudley, Josh Knights, Nicholas Corlett and Matthew Bostock. First girl was Anna Christian in twelfth spot.
