The fifth annual Celebration of Skipping event, sponsored by Britannia International, proved a huge success with hundreds of schoolchildren taking over the NSC sports hall.
This year’s event, which was held on Friday 17th June, saw a record number of participants with 9 schools from around the Island entering teams. Each team had choreographed a skipping routine to music, which they performed in front of family and friends in the audience.
A prize presentation was held as part of the celebration with a number of individual performances and achievements recognised. Fairfield School retained the Isle of Man Anti Cancer Association Shield for the school with the best overall skipping achievement.
Mark Beresford, managing director of Britannia International, added, “The Manx Skipping Challenge forms an important part of our community work aimed at inspiring young people. The Celebration of Skipping highlighted the importance and success of the initiative, which is run by the Department of Health.”
Mark added, “The standard of skipping in Manx Schools is incredibly high and we saw a huge amount of skill, creativity and most importantly fun on the day itself. We are pleased to offer our support to help make this an even bigger event next year.”
The Celebration of Skipping event concluded with a fantastic skipping performance from Jump Rope UK. Rebecca, Laura and Rachael put together an inspirational performance for the schools to encourage them to continue developing their skipping skills and stay fit and healthy. Britannia International funded Jump Rope UK’s visit to the Island, which also included holding skipping workshops in local schools and a skipping demonstration in the Strand Centre.
