1000 Walkers Pay Tribute To Absent Friends

by isleofman.com 12th July 2011
Around 1000 students, staff and friends of Ballakermeen High School are taking part in the charity Memorial Walk today. The route follows the Marine Drive to Port Soderick where there is a stop for food and drink. At lunchtime there will be a poignant moment when the walkers will pause for a minute’s applause, as a mark of respect to those members of the school community who have lost their lives. The walk returns by footpaths to a finishing point by Douglas Golf Club and the Power Station – the spot usually used in Groves Road is currently a building site. Ballakermeen Memorial Walk has been held every 2 years since 1991 and has raised very large sums for a variety of charities chosen by the students themselves. Any charitable group wishing to bid for a donation, and anyone wishing to dotate should contact the school on 648700. ENDS
