Trains, Teddies & a Tremendous Day Out

by isleofman.com 2nd September 2011
Sunday the 28th August saw the return of The Isle of Man Railways Teddy Bears Picnic, with over 1,000 people travelling by train that day. The picturesque gardens of Rushen Abbey played host to the picnic, where Isle of Man Railways had arranged rides, slides, bouncy castles and tasty treats. Hon David Cretney MHK, Minister for Community, Culture and Leisure commented: “The Teddy Bears Picnic was first launched last year, resulting in over 800 passengers riding the train to its debut; it was a success then and this year shows that this success has grown, and hopefully continues to grow each year.” Pro-active new events such as Teddy bears Picnic and Island at War are helping to increase passenger figures on the Islands Heritage Railways, investments into rolling stock and the addition of more carriages will enable the Railways to expand these events and cope with these increasing passenger figures.” Brendan the Bear was also at the picnic, meeting children and their favourite teddies, lucky enough to be brought to the picnic. Brendan was unavailable to comment, but a reliable source tells us he had brilliant day out, and would like to thank all the lovely children who brought their teddies for a well earned picnic and ride on the steam train. The next event by Isle of Man Railways is Pie in the Sky. More details and train times available at www.iombusandrail.info ENDS
