Roche Storms to Microgaming Time Trial Win

by isleofman.com 5th September 2011
Evergreen Andrew Roche stormed to his second consecutive victory over the rolling hills around St Marks, Braaid, Eairy and Ballasalla on a blustery Sunday morning. With the long cycling season slowly rolling to a close this popular time trial incorporated the Manx 25 mile Time Trial Championship and was hosted by the Manx Viking Wheelers. Roche crossed the line in 61mins 54secs to claim the title from Elliot Baxter 65mins 03secs. Baxter was using the event to put the finishing touches to his training for the Isle of Man End 2 End mountain bike race on September 18. Third place went to Rob Dooley - Mark Cavendish’s personal assistant - who was back on the Island during his rest week and clocked a creditable 67mins 22secs. The junior title went to rising star Josh Knights with a fantastic 69mins 57secs while the veterans’ title went to Gianni Epifani in a time of 69mins 02secs. Another star of the future, Anna Christian, won the Ladies 25 mile TT national title with a time of 85mins 01secs. The juvenile prize went to Jamie Dudley in 75mins 05sc which bodes well for his impending move up to the junior ranks. Twelve-year-old Conor Davies received a prize as the youngest competitor in the event. Microgaming generously sponsored the event with the awards and refreshments taking place in newly refurbished Silverdale Cafe, making it a very successful event all round. Microgaming has been the title sponsor of the Isle of Man national cycling team since 2008. This season the team is also supported by Eurocars which has supplied a team car for the squad. - ENDS -
