Recitation and rock, music and magic were just some of the acts that featured in the concert marking the end of this year’s Gale Force summer school.
Performers as young as four years old contributed to the show choreographed by Paul Bradford and directed by Gale Force founder Barbara Gale who said: ‘The students were a mix of my regular Gale Force pupils and those attending my annual week-long summer school of music, dance and speech workshops, some of whom had never performed before in front of an audience. Every single student contributed to the show, some performing acts they’d devised themselves and all showing a willingness to take direction, which is extremely encouraging given how young some of the children were. We were treated to numbers by Adele and Queen, Irish dancing, Manx ballads, hand stands and body rolls and much more and, for the finale, a rousing rendition of Queen’s “Radio Gaga”, choreographed and performed by the entire company to round off a great week. The concert also provided an opportunity for us to congratulate a Gale Force stalwart – Richard Corlett – on his outstanding A-level results and to wish him well for the future as he is soon to leave for Plymouth University to study to become a teacher. Richard has been a mainstay of Gale Force and will be hugely missed by all of the staff and students.
‘There will be a summer school once again in 2012, although we’ll be revamping the programme to keep it fresh, but meantime bookings are now being taken for the Gale Force “winter warmer” week-long workshop for the autumn half term from October 24 to 28.’
