A call for fairer boundaries

The woman heading a review of boundaries for House of Keys elections says a fairer system could encourage more people to vote.

Sally Bolton chairs the Boundary Review committee whose latest report goes to Tynwald next week.

It suggests the 24 MHKs should be elected from 12 two-seat constituencies each with broadly equivalent voter numbers.

At present some electors have three votes while others have just one.

Another suggestion is to end the current 'opt in' approach to the electoral register.

Ms Bolton says it's clear some people decline to go on the list, fearing a call-up for jury service.

But she says there are ways to improve the current situation:
