Strong autumn sunshine reflecting on a mirror sparked a house fire in Governor's Hill in Douglas.
Crews were called to the property at 4.30 pm Saturday by neighbours who raised the alarm when they were alerted by a dog barking as the lounge filled with smoke.
Fire officers forced the front door down and used a high pressure reel to control the flames which had set fire to curtains.
It's thought reflected sunlight from a magnifying cosmetics mirror was the unusual cause.
No one was hurt and dog escaped unharmed.
