THE Co-op store in Castletown has said it will continue to serve its "loyal customer base" following the news that Tesco is moving in.
Yesterday (Wednesday) Tesco confirmed that it has signed an agreement to open a Tesco Express shop in the Callow's Yard complex.
It means there will be three supermarkets – the Co-op, Shoprite and Tesco – vying for business in the area as well as a number of independent retailers.
A spokesperson for The Co-operative Food said: "The Co-operative is a community retailer which has served Castletown for many years.
"We have a loyal customer base and many of our shoppers are also Co-operative members. They like our ethical trading policies and our share of profits scheme.
"Our store in Castletown, like all our Isle of Man stores, offers customers an excellent service and we look forward to continuing to serve the local community by providing a choice of quality products and price promotions."
