Games volunteers nearly ready to start work

The final training session for the army of volunteers who have signed up to help at the Commonwealth Youth Games takes place this evening (Monday).

The Games open on Thursday, but the recruits will be out and about before then, welcoming the teams of athletes and officials who began to arrive over the weekend.

This evening's training session, at Centre 21 in Greenfield Road, is the fifth and last in an intensive programme.

Chairman of the Games Organising Committee Geoff Karran says the volunteers' role is key to the success of the entire event:
