ONE of the closest ever finishes in the Senior Manx Grand Prix saw Andy Brady claim victory in today’s race on the Isle of Man TT course.
Andy Brady won the highly coveted Senior win by just 3 seconds from Grant Wagstaff (599 Yamaha) after a stunning last lap battle when the gap was closing all the time.
It gave Brady a famous double, having won the Junior Manx Grand Prix earlier in the week. For Wagstaff, the result made up for his disappointment of retiring in the Junior Race. He said, “One day you’re absolutely devastated, the next you’ve finished second. Amazing.”
Brady led the race from start to finish, giving spectators a treat all around the course. He looked to be on for a fairly comfortable, although close, victory - maintaining a steady gap ahead of Wagstaff.
However on the final lap the gap had closed to only 5 seconds by Ramsey and at the Bungalow Wagstaff was just 3.4 seconds behind, but Brady held on to take the win by the same margin.
“It was a tough, tough race,” said Brady. “It’s the first Senior I’ve ever done and I’ve won it. Happy days . . . It was damp in lots of places, but no standing water . . . but I’m glad it’s over.”
Wagstaff said, “To be on the podium is a fantastic honour. This is just amazing.”
Sean Anderson (750 Suzuki), who was running in third place, was a retirement on the final lap, leaving Manx rider Dan Sayle to claim the third podium spot.
However, Sayle believed that the race should have been delayed for the safety of the riders.
“The first couple of laps weren’t right. The roads are OK now, but it should have been delayed for maybe an hour. The riders should have a bit more of an input. I wished they had listened to us.”
