Manx Grand Prix course conditions appalling as thick fog descends on the mountain for final day's ra

MANX Grand Prix race organisers are facing some difficult decisions today over whether to start the final day’s racing in very poor weather conditions on the Isle of Man TT mountain course.

Visibility on the mountain this morning at 9.30am on the mountain was down to just a few feet in some places and it’s clear that there is no chance of racing starting at the scheduled time of 10.15am with the visitisleofman.com Senior MGP.

With rain having fallen since the early hours of this morning all the roads on the course were wet, with some worse than others. All road surfaces on the mountain were covered in water this morning at 9.30am, although the rain had stopped.

Thick cloud covered some parts of the course, particularly after The Bungalow. By Brandywell visibility was down to no more than 20-30 yards and thick fog covered the course down to Keppel Gate, clearing slightly by the Creg ny Baa.

There is also considerable pressure on the race organisers following the death of three competitors this week, including two deaths where races took place with damp road conditions on some parts of the course.

There is also the very real possibility of the racing not taking place at all if there are any long delays today. It has already been suggested that there may not be sufficient numbers of marshals to hold the event if it is postponed until tomorrow, as the Manx Grand Prix always relies on visiting riders to marshal - and many of those will be leaving the Island either this evening or tomorrow morning.

Today’s schedule is also due to include the Classic Racer Superbike Race and Junior Post Classic Race at 1.15pm, followed by the VMCC TT course parade lap.

The latest announcement from the Grandstand this morning is that the roads will close half an hour later than scheduled at 10.15am with racing optimistically scheduled for a 10.45am start. Road closing orders permit the course to stay open until 9pm at the latest.
