1000 walkers pay tribute to absent friends

by isleofman.com 12th July 2011

AROUND 1,000 students, staff and friends of Ballakermeen High School are taking part in the charity Memorial Walk today.

The event, which has been running since 1991, is a mark of respect for members of the school community who have lost their lives and raises considerable amounts for charity.

The route follows the Marine Drive to Port Soderick where there is a stop for food and drink. At lunchtime there will be a poignant moment when the walkers will pause for a minute’s applause, as a mark of respect. The walk returns by footpaths to a finishing point near Douglas Golf Club and the Power Station.

Ballakermeen Memorial Walk has been held every two years since 1991 and has raised very large sums for a variety of charities chosen by the students themselves.

Any charitable group wishing to bid for a donation, and anyone wishing to donate should contact the school on 648700 or contact Paul Kane on 355237.
