Stunt death a 'tragic' safety failure

by isleofman.com 26th April 2011

Police believe a 'tragic' safety failure was responsible for the death of a Manx stuntman at a show in Kent.

Matt Cranch, 23, originally from Onchan, died after a human cannonball act went wrong.

He was fired 40 feet into the air from a huge cannon at a County Showground in Detling but was seriously injured when a safety net collapsed and he died later in Maidstone Hospital.

Acting Chief Inspector of Maidstone Police, Steve Griffiths, says they're trying to establish what went wrong with the help of health and safety officers.
