Diabetic Fundraiser a Huge Success

by isleofman.com 23rd December 2009

"Understand and take control" - this was the message of this year's World Diabetes Day (14th November 2009).

On the Isle of Man, Jackie Reid from the Manx Diabetic Group marked the occasion by organising a traditional 'Manx Caribbean' fundraising night at the Falcon's Nest in Port Erin.

Jackie's twin brother, David Castro, a professional singer, entertained the attendees with popular songs while her second brother Danny provided DJ services.  Local businesses generously donated raffle prizes.

The evening raised at total of ?1,500, which has been spent by the Manx Diabetic Group on two continuous glucose monitors; these are important for giving a patient control through understanding their individual response to diet and insulin.

These monitors have been gifted to the Noble's Hospital Diabetic Centre, whose dedicated care allows diabetics on the island to have a full life.
