Could Douglas Borough Council hand the Bowl over to the government so it could be refurbished in time for the Commonwealth Youth Games in 2011?
One councillor says that could be the ideal way of breaking the deadlock over the site, after Tynwald asked the local authority to reconsider its decision to pull out of a ?3.4 million joint scheme, designed to see funding for the project shared by the parties, on a 50-50 basis.
Handing the Bowl over to the Department of Tourism and Leisure would mean the government would have to pay for the work, rather than Douglas ratepayers.
Councillor Ashford says he would support the idea, but believes some of his colleagues might resent giving up such a valuable asset:
