Festival will show richness of African culture

by isleofman.com 21st December 2009

The cultures and music of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Cameroon will come to the Isle of Man at the Festival of Manx Connections next year.

It's taking place at the Villa Marina on February 5 and 6.

The festival, supported by the H&S Davidson Trust and co-ordinated by the One World Centre, will highlight the work of Manx charities and their volunteers and representatives operating overseas, principally in Eastern Europe, Asia and Africa.

Edward Oldham has more (text, below, from attached audio file):

Felix Ngindu is a djembe player from the DRC who has visited the Island three times before and is currently working with the Development Education Centre in the North West of England.

Noah Messomo will be making his first visit, evoking his world of the Cameroon rainforest through storytelling, costume, artefacts, music and dance.

Both will be working in the Island's schools as well, giving children an insight into the richness of African culture, and performing during the two-day festival.

On Friday, February 5, the festival celebration evening in the Colonnade Suite has a wide variety of performing artists including Felix and Noah, along with many local names, to create a multicultural exchange.
