The item of civic regalia missing from Douglas Town Hall is the Mayoress’ chain.
Councillors initially remained tight-lipped about which item had gone AWOL but the position has now been confirmed by council leader David Christian following a meeting of the council.
It is believed the chain was misplaced during a visit to Northern Ireland before current mayor Michael Gelling took up office in May.
Police are continuing to investigate the matter and anyone with information that can assist is asked to contact Sergeant Ged Power on 631212 or the anonymous Crimestoppers number - 0800 555 111.
