Island ship in Singapore crash

by isleofman.com 19th August 2009

A ship registered on the Isle of Man has been involved in a crash with a tanker off the coast of Singapore.

The Ostende Max collided with a Liberian vessel in the Malacca Straights yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon.

No casualties have been reported from the Manx ship, although there are a number of people unaccounted from the tanker.

The Douglas registered Ostende Max has now been towed to port, where investigations into the crash are being conducted.

Two casualty investigators from the Island's ship registry are travelling to Malaysia, where they hope to find the cause of the accident.

Currently, there is little known about the incident, although reports suggest the Liberian tanker Formosaproduct Brick was on fire and listing as a result of the collision.

It's hoped more will be known in the next 24 hours.
