The Isle of Man Government’s TT Festival and Motorsport Arrangements Group, and the Manx Motor Cycle Club, have issued a joint statement regarding road closures during the forthcoming Manx Grand Prix (22nd August - 4th September).
"Whilst appreciating that some people may be inconvenienced by the forthcoming road closures for the Manx Grand Prix event," says a spokesperson, "it is important that everyone is aware of the times of the road closures so that arrangements can be made in order to minimise the impact of them, or to prepare to enjoy a day’s racing.
"There is an important change this year.
"In the event of delays on any race day between Tuesday 1st September and Friday 4th September, with racing extended into the evening, the whole of the TT Course, with the exception of The Snaefell Mountain Road between Ramsey Hairpin and Creg ny Baa, will be open to normal traffic between 5pm and 6pm, in order to minimise disruption to residents trying to make their way home at the end of the working day.
"Local radio stations will be supplying regular updates, or alternatively, the dedicated Road Closure Information telephone line, 685888, will have the latest information.
"All members of the public are encouraged to be aware of when the roads will be closed, and to bring the road closure times to the attention of any guests who may be staying with them.
"When the TT Course is closed, residents are asked to assist the event organisers by ensuring that all gates to properties around the course are closed, and that anyone who wishes to leave those properties are aware when the Course is closed
"If copies of the road closure times are required, handbills are available from Police Stations, and from the Department of Transport, Sea Terminal, Douglas.
"We would like to thank all members of the public for their continued support for motorsport on the Isle of Man".
