Cries for help were considered a joke

The death of 14 year-old Isle of Man schoolboy Nathan Griffiths in an accident in Thailand has been given extensive coverage by the United Kingdom media.

It appears he drowned when he was sucked into a swimming pool vent at a water park in the resort of Pattaya.

Members of Nathan's family who were with him at the time say pool staff thought their cries for help were a joke.

This lifeguard, whose words have been translated, explained what happened:
