Close drug law loophole, says MHK

by isleofman.com 14th July 2007
There’s a call for a loophole in the Island’s drug laws to be closed – although this may not be soon.

Douglas North MHK Bill Henderson asked DHSS Minister Eddie Teare about a flaw he’d pointed out during Tynwald’s June sitting.

The loophole would mean it would be possible for people to possess magic mushrooms and yet not break the law.

Mr Henderson asked when the law would be changed.

Kate Skinner reports (audio file attached):

Mr Teare said the matter was a complex one which needed further investigation before any changes were made.

He said several government departments needed to be involved in any discussions about the Island’s drug laws.

Because of this, he says he’s not sure when he’ll be able to take any action to close the loophole.

But he says it is a matter of concern and he will carry out the necessary investigations and action.
