MEA concerns after Tynwald vote

One of the MHKs who opposed Tynwald’s bid to grant retrospective permission for the Manx Electricity Authority loans has been explaining the reasons behind his decision.

North Douglas member Bill Henderson was one of four who voted against the move, which mover Chief Minister Tony Brown stressed would avoid a potentially long and expensive court case.

The MEA board recently admitted the ?120 million loans it took out were unlawful and decided it would not be defending a high court petition by auditors KPMG.

Mr Henderson (pictured) believes with issues of accountability remaining, the Tynwald motion doesn’t go far enough:
