Incinerator throughput increasing

The Isle of Man's energy from waste plant, at the bottom of Richmond Hill, Braddan will be operating close to full capacity within three years.

There had been concerns the ?40 million facility was being under utilised, but the government is now having to move quickly to reduce the amount of waste the Island produces, and kerb-side collections are seen as one solution.

New figures suggest the annual cost of an Island-wide scheme could be about ?20 a household.

Member of the Department of the Environment with responsibility for waste, Dudley Butt, MLC, says the increasing throughput is one of two reasons why such a scheme is needed (audio file attached):
