Isle of Man snooker star Darryl Hill is travelling to Latvia today to compete in the World’s biggest amateur tournament.
The 17-year-old will play in the World Amateur Championship in the country’s Olympic Sports Centre.
Players can only play if nominated by their national governing body.
Hill, the current Island champion, is in a group of seven players from Japan, Canada, Poland, Finland, Singapore and Belarus.
This year has been his best to date, narrowly missing out on turning professional.
In the qualifying rounds of professional World-ranking tournaments he lost narrowly to former World number six Alan McManus 5-3 and to World number 40 Rory McLeod 6-3, having led 3-1.
The winner of the World Amateur Championship will be awarded a place on the professional main tour.
