Police have issued a statement about the spate of burglaries - and once again warned against speculating on social media.
Inspector Derek Flint said inquiries were continuing into the break-ins that started in January, adding: 'Following a lull of several weeks, a further spate occured at the latter end of February into the start of March. In total during this period there have been 47 reported burglaries where entry has been gained and property, mainly jewellery, has been stolen with a further 9 attempts made at a number of other properties.'
He said the burglaries are linked and has warned householders to continue to be vigilant. The latest burglary was in the Birchill, Onchan, area five days ago.
Inspector Flint said: 'There is no one area being targeted and the persons responsible have carried out burglaries across the Island
so the security message is the same for anyone, remain vigilant and report anything suspicious to the police.
'We are also aware of CCTV footage taken recently around Manor Park circulating on social media which, has been anecdotally linked by the author to this recent spate of burglaries. Enquiries are ongoing into this incident but police are satisfied that this has no links
whatsoever to the other matters. We'd again advise the public from posting such images or comments on social media, as such actions can have damaging consequences to the individuals concerned and to the ongoing investigation.'
