David Livsey, aged 9 from Onchan, presented a cheque for ?550 recently (29th January) to Alan Skates, RNLI Douglas Deputy Launch Authority.
 
Each Christmas David's family decorate the outside of their home in Eskdale Road, Onchan, with lights, actually winning in 2014 the Onchan Commissioners' prize for the best outside light display. With a thought of raising money for local charities a collection box was put out with the lights and this too has proved successful with lots of people making the effort to come and see the lights showing their appreciation by making donations.
 
The decision as to which local charity should benefit is determined by family discussion and this year David suggested Douglas lifeboat visiting the station this morning with Mother, Barbara, and Grandfather, John, to present the cheque.

David and his family's efforts are very much appreciated not only by the volunteers at Douglas lifeboat station but also by the RNLI which as a charity depends very much on donations such as this to maintain its life saving service around the coasts of the British Isles and the Republic of Ireland,

Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer with the RNLI as lifeboat crew, shore helper, or fundraiser should contact their nearest lifeboat station.
