Zurich International Life (Zurich) was pleased to invite 31 local Manx registered charities to an event to highlight Zurich’s appreciation for the very worthwhile work that each of these charities do to support people (and animals!) on the Island. Charities are voted for and chosen by employees, with ?30,000 being donated for 2017. Manx Breast Cancer Support Group (MBCSG) received the most employee votes and received the highest monetary amount, though all 31 charities nominated by employees received a donation from Zurich to assist them in achieving their 2017 goals.
Tim Rushton, Trustee of the Zurich Financial Services (IoM) Staff Charity Fund commented: “It’s fantastic to see such a diverse mix of deserving charities at this event, all of which have been nominated and voted for by the employees of Zurich on the Island. Supporting our local community, especially Manx registered charities, is something that our people are very passionate about.”
MBCSG is a young Manx Charity registered in 2012. The group is largely made up of both men and women who are breast cancer patients, past and present. The Charity aims to provide advice and support to all breast cancer patients, their families and carers on the Isle of Man. Every penny raised goes towards helping improve the Island’s Breast Service.
Julie Stokes, Chairperson for MBCSG said: “We have now built the Breast Unit and are immensely proud of what we have achieved for the Isle of Man. Everything is under one roof from breast screening to symptomatic. It has unusual colour schemes which are fresh and bright and we hope, from the decor to the furniture, it makes the experience just that little bit easier. We are now moving on to providing the latest equipment which as I am sure you can imagine is a costly process, with one piece of equipment costing ?500,000 alone. Zurich has been a fantastic support to us from the start of our journey and we would like to thank each and every one of your staff for voting for us.”
