by isleofman.com 23rd November 2017

Author Derek Winterbottom has launched his book at Milntown and presented chairman of Milntown Trustees Charles Guard, with a signed copy.

The book not only tells the story of Milntown House and Estate, but also its long-term owners, the powerful Christian family; including Illiam Dhone, Fletcher Christian, Deemster John Christian who built the facade to the building we see today and the spectacular family bankruptcy in 1886. The book also covers the Edwards family and the motoring baronet Sir Clive whose family were the last owners. Several of Milntown’s ghost stories are also recounted by those who experienced them.

The revised second edition features the exciting finds from the Cumbria Archives in Workington, which have thrown new light on the development of the house in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

Copies of the book can be bought from the Milntown cafe for ?10 or online at www.milntown.org for ?10 plus ?2.80 postage and packing.
