First positive test for coronavirus on the Isle of Man

Isle of Man Government released a statement on Thursday evening that the first confirmed case of coronavirus COVID-19 has been reported on the Isle of Man.

A family member took to social media on Thurday evening with the following information:

So guys ***** has tested positive for the Coronavirus!! I'm putting it on Facebook so anyone who has had any contact with him since he returned from Spain on Sunday can be aware. He flew home easyjet from Liverpool at about 11am

The FaceBook post has since been removed.

The Isle of Man Government statement in full:

A patient on the Island has today, Thursday 19 March, tested positive for coronavirus. The patient had recently returned to the Isle of Man from a trip to Spain.

The Public Health team has been in touch with the patient to provide advice and support, and will start contact tracing.

The Chief Minister, Hon Howard Quayle MHK, will give a full media briefing tomorrow.

The flight concerned appears to be the Sunday morning Liverpool easyJet service.

The Manx Government are now expected to contact everyone on that flight and others who had contact with the confirmed case of coronavirus COVID-19 as soon as possible.

The public will get the chance to use the new Manx 111 call system when it comes into action at 6am on Friday morning.
