Around 3:25am this morning the Police and Fire Brigade were called to attend Number 2A Lord Street to reports that the building was on fire. These are purely commercial premises above Top Shop and no one has been injured as a result.
Officers arrived almost immediately and contained the area. The fire spread quickly and although the true extent of the damage is unclear at this stage, there will be considerable smoke damage to premises nearby which include the Co-Op on Dukes Street, Top Shop and The Caf on Lord Street.
A small section of the pavement on Lord Street next to Top Shop has been sealed off as a precaution. Police would ask motorists to be extra vigilant of pedestrians using the crossing but the street is still running two ways.
At this time the cause of the fire is unknown but is being investigated.
