Request For Information

by isleofman.com 28th September 2010
Around 3:25am this morning the Police and Fire Brigade were called to attend Number 2A Lord Street to reports that the building was on fire. These are purely commercial premises above Top Shop and no one has been injured as a result. Officers arrived almost immediately and contained the area. The fire spread quickly and although the true extent of the damage is unclear at this stage, there will be considerable smoke damage to premises nearby which include the Co-Op on Dukes Street, Top Shop and The Caf on Lord Street. A small section of the pavement on Lord Street next to Top Shop has been sealed off as a precaution. Police would ask motorists to be extra vigilant of pedestrians using the crossing but the street is still running two ways. At this time the cause of the fire is unknown but is being investigated. ENDS --------------------------------------------------------- At approx. 03.29am this morning, Tuesday 28th September 2010, a fire was discovered in the first floor offices above Top Shop, Duke Street, Douglas. The fire brigade was on scene shortly after and took charge of the incident. There is no reason to believe that any persons were in the building at the time of the fire, or that there is anything sinister about the incident. Obviously investigations as to the cause of the fire will be initiated. As a result of this incident, Lord Street was immediately closed from the junction of Fort Street to the junction of Ridgeway Street, to allow the emergency services to deal with the fire. This road closure is still in force and will be so until further notice. At this time, It is anticipated that it should be lifted before commuter traffic begins, this morning. --------------------------------------------------------- Between 3pm on Tuesday 21st September and 8am on Wednesday 22nd September 2010, a burglary occurred at a unit on the Balthane Industrial Estate, Ballasalla. Stolen were a number of “Cadbury Wispa” bars and cans of energy drink. Police request that if anyone has any information which may be relevant to this crime to contact PC Neil Hastie at Castletown Police Station on 822222 ENDS
